A chef and recipe developer shared an easy swap hungry foodies can make to take their tuna melts to the next level - and it’s easily accessible. Amy Sheppard recently wowed her followers on TikTok with an innovative take on toasted sandwiches, swapping out regular sliced bread for something else which will give it an extra crunch and burst of flavour.
Next time you go to make a toastie, reach for the garlic bread. Yes, garlic bread. Amy completely transformed the humble tuna melt, this is how she did it.
Amy said: “So many of you made my Chilli Cheese Garlic Bread Toasties the other week, that I thought I'd share a tuna version. This is basically a cross between a crunch and a melt. All of the crunchiness of chopped veg and all the lovely gooeyness of a melt.
“Either have them as a treaty lunch or serve them with a pile of chips for a really great dinner.”
The chef also whips up her own tuna filling, adding bags of red pepper, celery and red onion, giving it an extra crunch when you bite into it. A few people in the comments asked if the mayo can be swapped out, in this case, Amy suggested using sour cream instead.
Amy’s video has already been viewed over a massive 537,700 times, racking up 11,900 likes and 158 comments. Fellow foodies praised Amy’s cheap and speedy recipe, with NewYorkfoodie saying: “Make and deliver to me.”
Anna agreed: “Such a great idea. I could eat one of those right now.”
Cecilia wrote, “God my mouth is watering. I will be making these for sure,” while Michelle said, “Look sooooo good lunch sorted for tomorrow.”
Desi commented: “How have I never thought of this! I need to make.”
So if you’re looking for an easy way to elevate your regular tuna melt for lunch, this is how you can recreate Amy’s recipe at home.
Ingredients
Method
Turn the grill to medium. Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.
Place four slices of frozen garlic bread on the tray, butter side up. Grill for a few minutes until crisp and golden. Turn the garlic bread over and set aside.
Place the red pepper, celery and red onion into a bowl. Add the tuna and mayonnaise and season with salt and pepper before giving it a really good stir.
Divide the tuna mayo between the cooked garlic bread, spreading it evenly up to the edges. You may not need all the tuna.
Top with grated cheese, but leave a little to sprinkle on top of the toasties.
Place four more slices of garlic bread on top, butter side up and finish with a little scatter of grated cheese.
Place under the toaster and gently cook until the top slices of garlic bread are golden brown, crips and the cheese has melted.
