Homemade granola takes just 10 minutes to make with 'amazing' recipe

Breakfast doesn't need to be complicated, but making sure you start your day right is important.

Granola is often touted as a healthy option for breakfast, but buying supermarket options may have hidden ingredients you want to avoid.

To help any beginners out there, the food experts at BBC Good Food have shared a simple recipe for an “energy-boosting” granola brekkie that will help you get your day started.

A bonus to this recipe is that it’s minimal fuss, as you’ll only need ten minutes to prepare all the ingredients before whacking it in the oven.

The recipe has been very popular with home cooks, scoring a perfect five out of five stars from 22 reviews.

SW18sandy commented: “I can't make enough of this for the family - they absolutely love it! I have been making half batches but they go through it too quickly so I'm making the whole recipe today. If I didn't have a nut-hater in the house, I'd definitely add a few pecans in but even exactly as it is, this is a yummy granola recipe!”

Another said: “OMG!! Recipe is really amazing I was in search of such a good recipe for long. Thanks for sharing.”

Paula agreed: “This method is on repeat in our house. I do ad-lib on the fruit and nuts, making it luxury granola.”

A number of people recommended adding seeds and dried fruits of your choice, just so each iteration has a different flavour.

So if you want to save money on buying your granola by simply doing it at home, this is what you’ll need.

Homemade granola

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 125ml maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 300g rolled oats
  • 50g sunflower seed
  • 4 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 50g pumpkin seeds
  • 100g flaked almond
  • 100g dried berries
  • 50g coconut, flakes or desiccated coconut

Method

Heat oven to 150C/fan 130C/gas 2. Mix the oil, maple syrup, honey and vanilla in a large bowl.

Tip in all the remaining ingredients, except the dried fruit and coconut, and mix well. Tip the granola onto two baking sheets and spread evenly.

Bake for 15 minutes, then mix in the coconut and dried fruit, and bake for ten to 15 minutes more.

Remove and scrape onto a flat tray to cool. Serve with cold milk or yogurt.

The granola can be stored in an airtight container for up to a month.
