How to whiten socks and remove stains fast without bleach or vinegar

Socks are the number one laundry item that gets terribly stained and loses their sparkle pretty quickly, but there is a way to get them back to their best.

It's tempting to grab some bleach for your whites, but while it might be tough on stains, it's no friend to fabric, turning your socks thin and full of holes before you know it.

Ditch the harsh stuff and follow the advice of cleaning guru Lynsey Crombie, the Queen of Clean which only requires one natural item you may already have.

She’s got a cheap and cheerful hack that’ll sort your socks out and it's all about baking soda.

Lynsey took to Instagram to show off in a video how she tackled her son’s utterly grubby white socks.

Baking soda is a grime-busting holy grail with a knack for making those dirty marks seem like a thing of the past as it gives your detergent a power-up.

So, how does it work? After letting the socks soak up the soapy, baking soda magic for a bit, Lynsey brought out a mini washboard for an old-fashioned scrub and those socks went back to dazzling white.

She couldn't hide her love for the washboard, declaring: “Love my washboard, perfect when hand washing, old school cleaning at its best.”

No washboard? No worries. Let your socks soak in the baking soda bath for 30 minutes and then chuck them in the machine on your usual cycle - the same brilliant result and less elbow grease.

For tackling those tough, stubborn stains on socks, soaking them overnight can make all the difference in getting them sparkling clean.

Lynsey’s clever tip for cleaning grimy white socks left her followers utterly impressed by the transformation. The comment section lit up with admiration for the eye-opening results.

One person said: “I love your little washboard and those socks came out so white!”

Another was amazed, writing: “Wow white as snow. Then look brand new!”

A third grateful fan chimed in: “What a clever idea, this is a game changer for me as white socks are the bane of my existence... thank you, Lynsey!”
