It was the response the nation was waiting for. England bounced back in style from their opening Euro 2025 defeat to France by hammering Netherlands 4-0 in Zurich.

They led 2-0 at the break after stunning long range strikes from Lauren James and Georgia Stanway. James made it 3-0 after the break, before Ella Toone completed the rout with a crisp finish. It means Sarina Wiegman's side now have their group fate in their own hands ahead of their clash with Wales on Sunday.

Express Sport rates the Lionesses....

England player ratings (4-3-3)

Hannah Hampton 7: As comfortable a night as she'll ever have at a major tournament. Was under little pressure, but assured when called upon and her distribution was on point.

Lucy Bronze 7: Got forward well and comfortably dealt with Jill Roord.

Jess Carter 7: Marshalled well and rock solid when called upon. Seemed in constant communication with defensive partner Williamson.

Leah Williamson 8: Not half as busy as the French clash but barely put a foot wrong. Played out from the back and cemented her display with one pinpoint 30 metre pass to turn defence into attack late on.

Alex Greenwood 7: Able to push up at will as England flooded forward in the first half.

Ella Toone 9: A sublime turn and finish into the bottom corner to cap a fine display. Linked well with her front three and ran at the Dutch defence.

Keira Walsh 8: Refused to take her foot off the gas, even in the dying minutes. Ensured Netherlands could never get settled in midfield as she disrupted their play and won a series of tackles.

Georgia Stanway 8: Her performance petered out in the second half, but she'll be remembered for what happened before half time. Her low 20-yard shot flew into the bottom corner and essentially killed off the Netherlands.

Lauren James 9: Is she injured? Not on this evidence. A constant threat and got England going with her stunning left-foot opener. Struck again after the break, and had she not been taken off, would have been odds-on for a treble.

Alessia Russo 9: No goals, but a hat-trick of assists. Constantly offered herself in the No.9 role and supplied her forward partners all night.

Lauren Hemp 8: Another one unlucky not to get on the score sheet. One surging run forward in the first half summed up her energy and cut in from the left to good effect.

Subs:

Chloe Kelly (for James, 69) 6: Little opportunity as England slowed in the latter stages.

Grace Clinton (for Toone, 75) 7: Looked comfortable on the ball when she came on although intensity of game had long dropped by then.

Beth Mead (for Hemp, 75) 6: Brought on to help see things out and did just that.

Niamh Charles (for Bronze, 84) 6: Little to deal with in the final minutes.

Aggie Beever-Jones (for Russo, 84) 6: Sent on to give Russo a well earned rest and a few nice touches before the final whistle.
