A canine nutritionist claims an unlikely food source could be the key to your dog living a longer, healthier life.
Cameron Wimble, who regularly shares wisdom on animal health via TikTok, visited a supermarket where he pointed out one common item he claims will be hugely beneficial to your pet. "If you want your dog to live for as long as possible, then you need to start feeding them this ingredient because it will do things that you cannot believe," he said in a video.
"This very humble ingredient is great for muscle, skin, and coat health and most dogs love them," Cameron added. That ingredient? "The humble egg," he continued.
"Eggs contain all 10 of the essential amino acids," he enthused. "These are integral in muscle repair, digestion, enzyme production - and also integral for immune system function."
Cameron closed by reiterating the importance of "adding the humble egg to your dog's bowl" before providing details on quantity and freqency in a caption. "2β3 times a week is ideal for most dogs, raw or cooked."
For small dogs, Cameron suggests half an egg per portion, whilst one full egg is suitable for medium-sized dogs, whilst up to two eggs is fine for larger breeds.
Cameron also enthuses on his website: "They [eggs] contain valuable amounts of protein and the essential nutrient choline which aids brain function and helps with memory. Eggs are also an excellent source of vitamins A, B1, B2, B5, B12 and D. And theyβre a great source of calcium, iron, phosphorus, sodium, selenium and zinc.
And he further recommended: "Feed your dog raw, soft or hard boiled (whole or chopped up), poached or scrambled eggs. For a bit of fun at supper time, try giving your dog a shelled, whole hard boiled egg. Itβs a joy to watch. Pour yourself a drink, turn off the TV, sit back and enjoy!"
Writing in response, one TikTok user said: "Thanks for the reassurance! I give my senior boy a hard boiled egg a day." A second person added: "I give my dog, poached, boiled and scrambled eggs meant to be good for him."
A third revealed: "I give my dog a scrambled or boiled egg every morning." Whilst a fourth penned: "My Rocco has scrambled egg with Greek yogurt for breakfast every morning he loves it, he also loves boiled eggs."
Backing up Cameron's advice, PetMD states online: "Cooked eggs are good for dogs! Dogs can eat hard-boiled or scrambled eggs. The main objective is that the eggs need to be cooked. Do not feed raw eggs to dogs.
"Eggs are good for dogs as they provide an excellent source of fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and protein. Essentially the entire egg, including the eggshell, can be nutritious for dogs."
