Arsenal stew on Morgan Rogers transfer swoop after Preimier League rivals leave door ajar | Football | Sport![]() Arsenal have made enquiries about signing Morgan Rogers this summer after adding him to their transfer wish list. The Gunners are intent on signing a new left-winger to compete with Gabriel Martinelli, and they aren't the only Premier League big shots to have taken an interest in the Aston Villa star. Rogers contributed to 18 goals in 37 Premier League matches last season and racked up another six goal contributions in the Champions League. The 22-year-old established himself as a key player under Unai Emery over the course of the campaign and earned his first call-up to the senior England fold. His rapid rise has put top clubs on alert. Express Sport understands that Arsenal have included him on a list of left-wing targets, but despite making contact with his camp last week, they are yet to ramp up their interest. The north Londoners' enquiry follows a similar approach from Liverpool prior to the summer transfer window opening. The Reds' early-stage interest is yet to be followed up, and although that has left the door ajar for Arsenal to swoop in, both clubs will be aware that Villa could demand a fee well in excess of £70million. Rogers put pen to paper on a new contract as recently as November which will tie him to Villa Park until 2030. That alone is enough to tell interested parties that his services would not come cheap. Villa paid just £15m to sign Rogers from Middlesbrough 18 months ago and a summer sale would land them a handsome profit. But Emery will be keen to keep hold of his difference-makers as he bids to propel the club back into the Champions League spots. Rogers spent time on the books at West Bromwich Albion and Manchester City as a youngster, but it was in England's lower leagues that his career got moving. The versatile star enjoyed loan spells with Lincoln City, Bournemouth and Blackpool en route to making his top-flight breakthrough. And he could soon go up another level if the Premier League's top dogs revisit their interest. Arsenal have been looking at a number of left-wing options including the likes of Leroy Sane and Nico Williams. Sane will be a free agent at the end of the month, but Arsenal would still need to fork out for his hefty wages, and likely a sizable signing-on bonus too. Williams has a £42m release clause in his Athletic Club contract but he would also command a massive salary. Source link Posted: 2025-06-05 19:24:54 |
