Tragedy as two-year-old British boy drowns in Ibiza | World | News

A two-year-old British boy has drowned after his family found him floating in the pool of a villa in Ibiza. The incident happened in Sant Joan, a municipality in the northern part of the island.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at 10.40am this morning, June 5 after reports that a child was not breathing and had no pulse.

Doctors attempted to resuscitate the British boy for an hour but were unable to revive him.

Following the emergency call, SAMU 061 the Spanish emergency medical service (EMS) that provides ambulance and emergency medical assistance in the Balearic Islands, activated the PCR code to provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation assistance via the phone.

First to arrive at the holiday home was the basic life support ambulance (BLS). These ambulances are equipped with essential equipment for providing basic life support, such as oxygen, portable devices for respiratory tract care and defibrillators.

The primary use of BLS ambulances are to stabilise patients. The BLS was followed by an ambulance to assist the child.

However, despite the emergency crews best efforts the two-year-old was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

This is the second incident involving a British child in the Balearics this week. A four-year-old British boy had to be rescued after his hand was harrowing sucked into a swimming pool pipe at a hotel in Majorca.

Onlookers were horrified as the youngster suddenly became trapped after inserting his arm into the pool's suction hole, which was not covered prompting staff at the Hotel Zafiro in Can Picafort, a resort in the north of the island, to summon emergency services.

Paramedics were first on the scene but were unable to free the boy, however when this failed Spanish firefighters were forced to drain the entire pool in a bid to release the boy from the tight rope.

After half an hour the boys hand was freed and he was taken to hospital for examination.
