Police release sad Liverpool parade crash update as 9-year-old injured | UK | News![]() Police have revealed the youngest person injured in the Liverpool parade crash was just nine-years-old. Merseyside Police also confirmed that 79 people were hurt in Monday’s incident when a car ploughed into crowds on Water Street in the city centre. The youngest victim was just nine, while the oldest was 78. All of those injured are understood to be British, the Liverpool Echo reports. Seven people remain in hospital in a stable condition. Officers say the number of injuries has risen as more people came forward in the days following the incident. A 53-year-old man from West Derby, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs, remains in police custody. Detectives were granted more time to question him and continue their investigation. Police have also responded to questions about the roadblocks and diversions that were in place on the day. The vehicle involved, a Ford Galaxy, reportedly tailgated behind an ambulance responding to a separate medical emergency before driving into the crowds. The ambulance had been heading onto Water Street to help someone suffering a suspected heart attack when the car followed behind it. Moments later, it rammed into dozens of people gathered to celebrate Liverpool’s parade. The police confirmed there was a partial closure of Dale Street, with traffic filtered down Exchange Street East to prevent access to Water Street. A flatbed truck and traffic cones were being used as a barrier, but it is not yet clear how the vehicle managed to bypass them. CCTV obtained by the Liverpool Echo shows the Ford Galaxy travelling along Dale Street from a point near the Queensway Tunnels before continuing on towards Water Street. Business owners in the area said that they were surprised that most of Dale Street was left open despite the huge crowds. But council officials said the route had to remain partially accessible due to nearby hotels and apartment buildings, as well as its connection to Victoria Street and the Mersey Tunnels. The investigation is ongoing and police are urging anyone with information or footage to come forward. Source link Posted: 2025-05-29 12:54:39 |
