Liverpool parade crash victims update as police share details in press conference | Football | Sport

Merseyside Police have issued an update on the fans injured by a car in Liverpool's Premier League trophy parade. On Monday night, it was revealed that 27 people had been taken to hospital for treatment after the incident, while a further 20 were treated on the scene for minor injuries.

In a press conference this afternoon, Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims has confirmed that 50 people have now been treated at hospital. Of those, 11 remain in hospital for ongoing treatment. She added: "They are all in a stable condition and they appear to be recovering well."

The figures do not include fans who later attended hospital of their own accord. In the aftermath of the crash, local restaurants were used to keep people with minor cuts and bruises comfortable while paramedics prioritised treating those with serious injuries.

Sims said that an "extensive investigation" into the incident was now underway. She also reiterated a request for members of the public not to speculate over the circumstances around the crash, and asked people not to share distressing content online.

"I have no doubt regarding the impact that this appalling incident has had on those who were injured, their families and friends," she said. The officer also appealed for more witnesses to come forward if they had any information on the incident.

Detective Chief Superintendent Karen Jaundrill said that the authorities were providing support to those injured. She added that they would continue to liaise with victims "in the days and weeks to come."

Following the collision at around 6pm on Monday, Merseyside Police confirmed they had detained a 53-year-old white British man. Simms also provided an update on his arrest.

"Detectives are making significant progress," she continued. "We have arrested a 53-year-old man from West Derby on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving, and driving while unfit through drugs."
