Tony Bellew appears to be Tommy Robinson’s latest target in his bid to garner publicity. In May, the far-right extremist was released from prison four months earlier than scheduled, having initially been sentenced to 18 months for contempt of court.

Robinson, 42, breached a 2021 High Court order prohibiting him from repeating false allegations against a Syrian refugee who had successfully sued him for libel. Since his release, he’s been active on social media, recently interviewing rapper Akala on YouTube. Earlier this year, Bellew was critical of Robinson’s views.

Citing Robinson's criticism of Islam, Bellew, 42, branded Robinson ‘racist’ and ‘disgusting’. The English Defence League founder shared the interview on X and aimed some scathing comments towards the ex-boxer.

“What’s your take on Tony Bellew bending over for Islam?” he wrote. “Using the boring ‘racist’ label. I didn’t take him for being a b***h.”

Former world champion Bellew had also said: “I saw the interview he did with the rapper, and he basically said he’s an enemy of Islam. Why would anyone be an enemy of any religion?

“There are bad Muslims, there are bad Christians, there are bad Catholics, there are bad Jews. I didn’t like the narrative Tommy Robinson was painting to be honest. Why would anyone pick targets?”

“It's like saying there's good white people and there's good black people. There are good and bad in all races, religions, creeds and ethnicities. And this man's painting is a narrative that there's something wrong with Islam.”

Bellow encouraged Robinson, real name Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon, to ‘stop spreading hate’. The Merseysider himself has been vocal on political issues since retiring from boxing in 2018.
