British couple killed after their Ferrari plunged off a mountain road | UK | News

A British couple have tragically died after their Ferrari veered off a mountain highway and plunged into a river in northern Spain, reports The Telegraph.

Dramatic images from the scene show the mangled remains of the black supercar submerged in the Yuso River, in the town of Boca de Huergano, on Saturday afternoon.

The victims, a 78-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman, were reportedly part of a convoy of around 20 Ferrari drivers taking part in a scenic rally through the area.

According to local media, the couple had been driving along the N-621 highway — a popular route known for its picturesque but winding mountain views — when disaster struck.

Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly before 2pm after receiving reports of the crash, the provincial council of Leon confirmed.

On arrival, responders found the luxury vehicle overturned, with part of it submerged in the fast-flowing river. A complex six-hour recovery operation followed, with crews forced to clear thick undergrowth to reach the riverbed.

Rescuers then removed the car door to retrieve the bodies of the man and woman, whose identities have not yet been released.

It remains unclear whether the couple died on impact or drowned in the river following the crash.

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: “We are supporting the families of a British man and woman who died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.”

Investigations into the cause of the fatal accident are ongoing.
