Italian Open star bursts into tears during heated argument with umpire | Tennis | Sport![]() Mirra Andreeva was unable to contain her frustration during her Italian Open clash with Clara Tauson. The Russian star was spotted in tears after being forced to replay a point after a heated row with the umpire in Rome. Tauson came from behind to impressively win the opening set 7-5 on Monday afternoon, before Andreeva responded in style by levelling 3-6. The already-edgy affair then erupted into controversy in the opening game of the third set. The 18-year-old fired in a fierce serve towards Tauson, who managed to return with an outstretched backhand to send the ball upwards. Andreeva then fired the ball back in the same direction, just moments after Tauson had sidestepped to the centre of the baseline. Tauson was left unhappy with the point though and called for a video review because of the fact the lights on the court came on mid-point. The umpire then reviewed the footage and ruled that the Danish star was correct and that it was a ‘hindrance’, meaning that the point would be replayed. It had already been a frustrating afternoon for Andreeva prior to the incident, being handed a Code Violation warning for unsporting conduct after smashing the ball away and breaking her racket during the opening set. She had stormed into a 3-1 lead initially before Tauson staged a remarkable comeback to take the opening set 7-5, with Andreeva’s outburst coming just moments after she failed to hold her serve.
