Shaun Murphy revealed that his mysterious row with Kyren Wilson has been “put to bed” after getting together at the World Snooker Championship. The 2024 world champion slammed Murphy for alleged “unprofessional behaviour” during their Masters final, which the Magician won 10-7 at Alexandra Palace.

Wilson had been criticised for labelling his 42-year-old opponent as an “old man” and claiming that Murphy needed the win more than he did. It was a curious choice of words and the world No. 2 later explained: “I think, if people knew the story, people would understand and probably actually applaud me almost for what went on in that final.

"Shaun knows full well what happened before the evening session of the Masters final. I don't want to badmouth anyone, but what he did before the evening session was uncalled for and quite unprofessional.”

The detail-less nature of Wilson’s complaints led to more questions being raised about what exactly his issue with a fellow BBC snooker pundit was.

They did not work directly together after being dumped out of the Crucible, with Murphy admitting that he too was left in the dark over why Wilson had spoken out against him.

“I’ve got absolutely no idea what Kyren Wilson is talking about, no idea at all,” he initially said.

“I genuinely have no idea. We regrouped in the dressing room following the first session. We got changed, we went off into the car park. I ended up filling my car with washer fluid, that’s how rock n’ roll we are!”

Murphy invited Wilson to have a cup of coffee together to hash out the issue, which he has since revealed took place during the Sheffield competition, with them burying the hatchet once and for all.

He told his onefourseven podcast: “Sorted and put to bed. I am happy to report that we did manage, despite our busy schedules, playing, working and travelling, we did manage to have a conversation in private.

“We got to the bottom of a couple of issues and we sorted it and moved on. I think it just goes to show for everybody in and around the World Championship and the pressure you are under for weeks and the buildup, sometimes you can say things that maybe on reflection you think: ‘Perhaps I shouldn’t have said that or perhaps I shouldn’t have done this’.

“I think that’s what happened there. I think if Kyren could have had his time again he might have said things slightly differently. But all sorted, it was all much ado about nothing and we move on.”
