Wheeler Dealers host: this 'modern classic' will one day be worth £10k

Wheeler Dealers presenter Mike Brewer has admitted one popular road car will one day be a “modern classic” and could be worth up to £10,000 within years. The host of the popular classic car TV series selected the Mk1 Audi TT as his top pick for the future, suggesting models could go six times higher.

Mike stressed that many owners “don’t realise" they could be sitting on a great investment with the TV star estimating prices could hit £10,000. The first-generation TT was produced between 1999 and 2005 before it was replaced by the second-generation model a year later. The Wheeler Dealers’ presenter made the revelation when asked to select the best second-hand used cars to purchase.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Mike explained: “Definitely a modern classic is a Mk1 Audi TT. The 225bhp model, that’s a really good car – a very good modern classic.

“People who have still got those today don’t realise they’re worth 15 hundred or two grand, maybe two-and-a-half-grand, some of them, but that car will be solid in years to come.

“People will be paying 10 grand for those in the future.”

According to motoring experts at Parkers, the Mk1 Audi TT could produce up to 221bhp with a top speed of up to 151mph.

The four-cylinder, 1781cc engine could also reach 0-60mph in just 6.4 seconds, making it a great deal for petrolheads.

However, the two-door coupe has a luggage capacity of just 220 litres meaning storage space is fairly limited.

The model cost around £27,775 when brand new although Parkers admits that second-hand models can be picked up today for between £1,130 and £2,205.

It’s not just Mike who believes the Mk1 TT could be a model of the future with experts at Hagerty UK also branding the model a "future classic”.

They said: “Driving it was one of those rare moments when you realise without a shadow of a doubt you’re looking the future right in the eye.

“Subsequent generations were of course faster still, and handled better, but lacked entirely the stunning visual innovation of the original.”
