Drivers on the M6 faced delays as a crash near Greater Manchester sparked long queues. A lane was shut on the southbound carriageway between junction 21 for Irlam and Warrington and junction 20 for the M56.

Motorway cameras showed tailbacks building on the motorway and drivers were warned of congestion. There were queues back towards junction 23 for the East Lancs Road at St Helens.
