Brussel sprouts will be 'alive with flavour' with cheap ingredient hack

Brussels sprouts will come "alive with flavour" with a cheap and incredibly easy hack, according to a cookbook author and chef. The unbelievably simple recipe just requires two store cupboard ingredients to be poured straight from a jar, without any extra chopping, peeling or dicing.

Jenn Segal guaranteed it adds zing while balancing out any bitterness from the vegetable, revealing the secret is balsamic vinegar and honey. She wrote on her website: "It’s hard to improve on simple roasted Brussels sprouts, but a splash of balsamic vinegar and a drizzle of honey bring the flavors to life. The vinegar adds a welcome zing while the honey balances the Brussels sprouts’ bitterness," adding that it takes them "up a notch".

To follow Jenn's method, roast about 700g of halved Brussels sprouts with olive oil, salt, and pepper for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown, stirring halfway through.

Add the end, drizzle a tablespoon of oil, a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar and a teaspoon of honey over the sprouts, before tossing to coat evenly.

The chef suggested choosing larger sprouts for the recipe because smaller ones, while a bit sweeter and more tender, can cook quickly so they may not brown as nicely.
