Gardening expert lists 6 jobs to do in April and one is great for bees

A gardening expert has listed her six jobs to do in April, with one twist beneficial to bees and butterflies as they crack on with their vital duties. inthecottagegarden recommends sewing quick growing vegetables, such as radishes and salad leaves every couple of weeks. This can be done very simply by digging a little ditch in soil with your hand and planting the seeds about 1cm apart.

Another job on the to do list is, if you have peas that are outgrowing their pots, they should be replanted now, making sure they have something to climb up. If you have not yet started growing them, it is not too late, the expert reassures viewers. If you are growing chives, you can get more bang for your buck by splitting them apart outside of the into smaller groups and replanting. This way you can get more of them. Meanwhile, courgettes, cucumbers and tomatoes can all be planted in April.

They are probably best kept inside for now, though, until morning forsts have completely passed.

Moving onto lawns, if yours is looking a bit patchy, the account recommends that April is a great month to overseed it and fill in any gaps.

"I'm not really into grass lawns," the expert notes, "so I'm trying out crimson clover instead, and it's great for pollinators."

It is a fast growing legume known for its bright crimson flowers and ability to improve soil fertility and suppress weeds.

Next, gardeners are urged to look under their pots to see if any seedlings are poking out.

This means it is time to move them into a bigger home filled with lovely compost. This ensures that they have plenty of room to grow.

Away from the garden, greenery inside may need to be watered more often in April than they did in winter.
