People are only just realising the 'best way' to peel bananas

Who knew there was a right way to peel a banana? You’re probably wondering if it changes the taste – and whether it’s really worth the effort to peel it differently.

It may sound trivial, but sometimes it’s the small things we learn each day that make all the difference. And while peeling a banana might not be something we think about regularly, it’s certainly good to know. Bananas are the most popular fruit in the world, and that likely means many of us have been peeling them incorrectly for years. The stem of the banana, after all, is the toughest part, as it’s the point where the fruit attaches to the rest of the bunch and keeps the bananas firmly in place on the tree.

A health director at @Healthydietnow said: “Banana peels are a good source of dietary fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.

They contain nutrients like potassium, magnesium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, and various beneficial plant compounds.” So, really, there’s no part of the banana that goes to waste!

Believe it or not, the correct way to peel a banana is from the opposite end – the end most people consider the ‘bottom’ of the banana.

Monkeys, it turns out, have been opening bananas this way for years. Despite their intelligence, we humans tend to think we’re doing everything right – but the truth is, monkeys have been peeling bananas the proper way all along.

They make a small incision by pinching the ‘bottom’ of the fruit and then peel it back section by section.

At first, it might feel a little odd, but contrary to popular belief, it’s the most efficient way to open the fruit.
