Remove and prevent mould in bathrooms with mixture of three household staples

A cleaning guru has shared her way of banishing mould from bathrooms - and preventing it from returning. Mould thrives in moisture, making bathrooms the perfect environment for it to fester.

Mould grows through tiny spores that are dispersed in the air. When they land on a surface, the spores need moisture and a food source to grow, and because they love humidity, mould in bathrooms can be a common issue. To help you tackle any unwanted mould in your shower, Anna, known as @anna_louisa_at_home on TikTok, shared how you can use just three ingredients.

In a video from January, Anna detailed three hacks “you may not know about”.

She wrote: “Bathroom cleaning hacks you may not know, although, if you’ve followed me for a while there’s a high likelihood you do already know them.”

When combating mould, you’ll need to create a solution using baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and washing up liquid.

Anna explained that you’ll need one cup of baking soda, half a cup of the hydrogen peroxide, and just one tablespoon of washing up liquid.

Place all of the ingredients into a jug or a suitable receptacle, before giving it a mix with a spoon.

Anna filled a sponge with a handle attached full of the solution, before applying it to the affected area.

You can also apply the solution directly to the sponge and wipe on. Once applied, leave the solution to rest for around 20 minutes.

After the time is up, wash and scrub away. Baking soda can help kill mould by altering its pH level, creating an alkaline environment that mould can’t thrive in.

It also works as an effective cleaning agent as it works as a mild abrasive when scrubbing.

When it comes to hydrogen peroxide, it works as an oxidizing agent, releasing oxygen that breaks down mould’s cells, including their protein and DNA.
