Defending champion Homan clinches playoff spot, Quebec, Ontario in the hunt at Scotties




Rachel Homan's curling Team Canada secured a playoff spot at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts with a 7-5 win over B.C.'s Corryn Brown.

Homan improved to 6-0 at the Canadian women's curling championships. The defending champions had two games remaining in Pool A's preliminary round.

The top three teams in each pool of nine advance and Homan was chased by three teams at 4-2 — B.C.'s Brown and Alberta's Kayla Skrlik and Selena Sturmay.

Sturmay was a 10-8 winner of New Brunswick's Melissa Adams in Wednesday's morning draw.

Saskatchewan's Nancy Martin beat Nunavut's Julia Weagle to get to 4-3. Northern Ontario's Krista McCarville thumped Prince Edward Island's Jane DiCarlo 15-2 and was 3-4.

Ontario's Danielle Inglis and Quebec's Laurie St-George rose to the top of their pool with victories.

Inglis improved to 5-1 in Pool B with an 8-6 win in an extra end over Manitoba's Kate Cameron. Inglis stole points in the 10th and 11th ends.

St-Georges was 5-2 with an 8-4 doubling of Yukon's Bayly Scoffin.

Manitoba's Kerri Einarson and Nova Scotia's Christina Black were both 4-2 after Einarson beat Black 9-6.
