The stunning but underrated Spanish region that's one of the cheapest destinations | Travel News | TravelSpain is hardly the first place that Brits would think of when they are trying to come up with ideas for underrated holiday destinations. But there is one part of the country that you may not be familiar with, and which has been listed as an affordable place for a break abroad. Kayak has put together a list of cheap holiday destinations for 2025, especially for those "young and broke". The travel specialist says that the autonomous region of Galicia has "largely escaped the attention of the British holidaymakers". Kayak adds: "With a cliff-hewn coast recalling the majesty of the Norwegian fjords, weather reminiscent of an Italian spring and coffee/beer prices so low you’ll think it’s the 90’s, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. "Sounds fishy? You bet – Galicia is known for its seafood, caught and delivered straight from net to table. "In terms of somewhere to stay, have a look at hotels in Vigo, a romantic old provincial capital on a hillside that’ll remind you of San Francisco. "Its harbour district is charming and well-stocked with cafés and bars." The best time to visit, the company says, is April to October for "clear, sunny days". The price of a beer is a very palitable £2. The price of a cappuccino, meanwhile, is £1.50. The price of a meal at an "inexpensive" restaurant can be £10. As far as free activities go, visitors can hike along the Camino de Santiago, a network of pilgrimage routes that lead to the shrine of the apostle James in Santiago de Compostela, or spend a lazy day on As Catedrais Beach. For history lovers, there are also Cathedral de Santiago de Compostela and Muralla Romana de Lugo - ancient Roman walls. The latter is a UNESCO world heritage site. They were built in the later part of the third century to defend the Roman town of Lucus. The entire circuit survives intact and is "the finest example of late Roman fortifications in western Europe". Source link Posted: 2024-12-13 02:53:13 |
