Three-month Blue Badge warning as 2.8m UK drivers and passengers hit by change

It means owners must apply for a new Blue Badge 12 weeks before their current pass expires before it becomes no longer valid.

Millions of road users are at risk with data from the Department for Transport showing there are around 2.8million Blue Badge holders in the UK.

Drivers who ignore the rules and continue to display an expired Blue Badge will be breaking the rules and could be hit with a hefty £1,000 fine.

A Blue Badge costs just £10 in England with motorists in Scotland paying £20 for a new card every 36 months.

Motorists based in Wakes are not charged anything with cards free to all who are eligible for one.

After waiting 12 weeks, it is possible some applications may be rejected with road users then unable to use disability parking bays until they get a new card sorted out.

GOV.UK added: "Your council should tell you why you're not eligible for a Blue Badge.

"You can ask them to reconsider your case if you do not think all the important information you provided was taken into account. You can also reapply if your mobility problems become more serious."

Motorists can apply or renew their Blue Badge online for themselves, someone else, or even an organisation.

However, to complete an application, individuals must office a proof of identity such as a birth certificate passport, or deicing prince.

Proof of address such as a council tax bill or government letter as well as proof of benefits is also needed.

Applicants will also have to share their National Insurance number and the details of a current Blue Badge they hold.

New applicants will also need to upload a recent digital photograph which will be sent off to complete the form.
