Price is the main seller, with the new E5 is set to come at two price points with the base model retailing from £27,505. But, those looking for extra features such as a panoramic sunroof and wireless mobile phone charging can opt for the £30,505 Luxury trim level.

In comparison, motorists can pick up an Evoque for around £40,000 with some higher-end models closer to £60,000. Range Rover is currently working on a fully-electric model set to be released next year with experts already suggesting the car could be priced at around £130,000.

The new Jaecoo 5 is fitted with a 61.1 kWh battery and 207 PS motor capable of reaching 0 to 62 mph in just 7.7 seconds. Jaecoo claims the model has a  WLTP range of around 248 miles, putting it close to many of its rivals such as the Audi Q4 and Volvo EX30.

The model comes fitted with an 80 kW DC charging plug and promises to top up its battery from 30 to 80% in around 27 minutes. The Jaecoo will also have a 13.2-inch central display, a 540-degree panoramic view and will be stuffed full of safety features.

Every Jaecoo E5 will also come with a 7-year or 100,000-mile vehicle warranty and an additional 8-year or 100,000-mile warranty on the battery.

Victor Zhang, UK Country Director of Jaecoo UK, said: “The Jaecoo E5 is an exciting new chapter for us in the UK – a compact electric SUV that carries the same confident design and adventurous spirit as our petrol models, but with the refinement and flexibility that comes from zero-emission driving.

“Following the success of our sister-brand’s OMODA E5, this new model extends that momentum, bringing the same flexibility and refinement to a more rugged, outdoors-focused SUV.”
