Tottenham fans have been banned from drinking wine and spirits ahead of tonight's Super Cup showdown with Paris Saint-Germain. The north Londoners are hoping to begin their campaign by lifting another trophy at the expense of the reigning European champions. They will be backed by thousands of supporters who have flown to Italy ahead of the fixture.

Many fans have arrived in Udine over the last few days, with the match taking place at the Bluenergy Stadium. However, some will have been left disappointed by a strange rule in force at pubs and bars across the region. They have been banned from buying anything but beer, with the restriction also applying to PSG supporters.

In one pub, various spirits including rum, whisky and vodka had all been taken down from behind the bar, according to The Sun. Fans were also prevented from buying wine, meaning beer was the only alcoholic drink available for purchase.

A note had been taped to the wall opposite the bar, which read: "Say thanks to the UEFA." Another note emphasised: "It's not our fault."

Even locals were hit with the bizarre restriction, with a local police officer quoted as saying: "These are the rules and it is beer only. Even the shops and supermarkets have not been allowed to sell alcohol to residents that live here."

Alcohol is not the only thing to have been ditched for the Super Cup, with Tottenham boss Thomas Frank revealing that Yves Bissouma had been exiled from the group due to disciplinary issues.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Frank said: "Bissouma has not travelled with the team because of disciplinary reasons. He has been late several times and the latest time was one too many.

"With everything you need to give your players a lot of love but also have demands and there also need to be consequences and this time there was a consequence for that.

"For me there has been, how can I say it, a consequence for this trip and then I will follow up when I come home. I will park it now because there is a relatively important game for tomorrow."

PSG have been dealing with a similar situation, axing Gianluigi Donnarumma from their squad after his failure to agree a new contract. The goalkeeper is now expected to leave the club with Manchester United said to be among the interested parties.

"These are always difficult decisions, I know that," explained PSG manager Luis Enrique. "I can only speak very well of Gigio Donnarumma, he is one of the best players in his role, no doubt.

"He is an even better person, but we are looking for a different kind of goalkeeper. It is always difficult to manage these kinds of situations."
