England were handed a major fitness boost on Monday as Leah Williamson was among a full contingent of 23 players training for Tuesday’s Euro 2025 semi-final against Italy.
The England captain had to be substituted with an ankle problem towards the end of last Thursday’s dramatic quarter-final victory over Sweden, after rolling an ankle during extra time, and the centre-back had limped off. However, her involvement in full training in Zurich – where she appeared to be showing good match readiness – will offer hope to Sarina Wiegman that Williamson will be ready to start Tuesday’s tie in Geneva.
The defending champions will travel to Geneva on Monday afternoon before Wiegman conducts an evening pre-match press conference at the Stade de Genève in the runup to the Lionesses’ sixth consecutive major tournament semi-final.
On Saturday the England defender Esme Morgan had said the team were “very optimistic Leah will be fine”, adding: “She seemed in very high spirits this morning.”
Lucy Bronze and Lauren James appeared to sustain minor knocks during Thursday’s physically draining match but were are also in full training.
