Most Brits cook vegetables every single day, whether its simply as a side or added to a dish, vegetables are necessacity for the majority of meals people enjoy on a daily basis. However its not a secret that vegetables can taste very bland, which is why most people add things such as butter or seasonings to give them a bit of flavour.

Yet, there is one secret ingredient that cooks can add to their veggies that will change everything. The simple addition that might take you by surprise was revealed in a cooking forum on Reddit. The user's recommendation created a lot of discussion, with others sharing what else they use the magical ingredient in.

User fencerman wrote: "Fish sauce into almost anything. That stuff is f*****g magical. Vegetables, meats, chillis, sauces, it doesn't matter - any time you want more of a salty, meaty, savoury flavour, just throw some in."

The reason as to why the condiment makes things taste so much better is because it is high in glutamate, an amino acid which contribute to a umami (savoury) taste. Glutamate is also a key component of the flavour enhancement monosodium glutamate (MSG).

Fish sauce appears to be a gem in the kitchen, as Reddit users continued unveiling just how many foods and dishes the sauce transforms.

The recommendations went from burgers to omelettes, steak to curry - the list went on. There are so many that fish sauce was even hailed as a "must-have" in the kitchen by one user.

Cooking_steak, another user, said: "Glad I found this, my friends always wonder what makes my meals taste so good. There's never enough fish sauce in my food."

When it comes to using fish sauce, it is important to know that "a little bit goes a long way" and the Reddit cooks have warned fellow chefs not to smell the condiment.

However, don't let that put you off as Animatorgeek urges that "more people need to know" about the game-changing ingredient that is fish sauce.

"Eating something savoury and it taste a little bland? Salt can propbably help, but a few drops of fish sauce will make the flavour explode," they wrote.
