Manchester United have submitted an improved bid for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo in a push to seal Ruben Amorim's second major signing of the summer, according to reports. And the Bees' expected stance has since emerged after over a month of playing hardball with their Old Trafford counterparts, including rejecting two offers.
United have been pursuing Mbeumo since he communicated his desire to complete a switch to the club, snubbing Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur. In the six weeks that followed, Brentford rebuffed two approaches worth £45million plus £10m in add-ons and £55m plus £7.5m in bonuses.
According to The Athletic, United have now returned to the negotiation table with a package worth £70m, consisting of a £65m guaranteed fee and £5m in add-ons.
The Red Devils are awaiting a response from Brentford but have met their demands of a figure that exceeds the £62.5m paid to Wolves for Matheus Cunha.
And, for that reason, the Evening Standard report that Brentford are expected to accept the third offer and end the saga.
The report claims that Newcastle United paying £55m to sign Anthony Elanga and Arsenal signing Noni Madueke for £52m prompted a rise in financial demands.

United have now agreed to meet those demands after weeks of discussions, and further talks are set to conclude quickly if Brentford accept their terms.
Amorim will have been keen to get Mbeumo on board before his squad travel to the United States for their pre-season tour next Tuesday.
First, the Red Devils face rivals Leeds United in Stockholm on Saturday to start their pre-season fixture schedule.
Mbeumo could first be in action for the club against West Ham United at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 27.

United continue the Premier League Summer Series by facing Bournemouth at Soldier Field in Chicago on July 31.
They will then head down to Atlanta for their final match against Everton at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium before heading home.
United's pre-season schedule concludes with the visit of Fiorentina on August 9, which will see David de Gea return to Old Trafford for the first time since his 2023 exit.
Amorim needs further reinforcements but will rely on player sales to boost his budget, with Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia all set to depart.
