Over the past few weeks, much of the UK has been experiencing some very warm weather. And with temperatures expected to climb again in the coming weeks, garden parties, BBQs and outdoor gatherings will be on the cards for many.
However, there's nothing more annoying than trying to relax outside, only to be constantly bothered by flies and wasps. Certain tricks like lighting citronella candles can help, but if you're looking for something even more affordable, then there's one very useful trick that literally costs pennies to do. The insight was shared by the Queen of Clean herself, Lynsey Crombie, during her recent appearance on This Morning.
The expert, aiming to help people make the most out of their summer plans by banishing wasps and flies, says there's an ultra-easy way to keep these pests far away from your BBQs and picnics.
When you're worried about getting 'attacked' by these flying nuisances, all you need to do is grab a jar of water and pop some copper coins in there.
According to Lynsey, when the pests look at the coins in the water, it makes them dizzy. When this happens, they're likely to turn around and fly away, leaving your guests and food alone.
The reason they'll get dizzy is due to the sunlight refracting off the coins, which makes the insects disorientated. Claiming that it really does work, Lynsey warned that you can't use anything bigger than a 2p to do this trick.
She said: "The silver doesn't work, it has to be the copper."
If it's your dustbins that wasps and flies are swarming, then the solution is very simple. All you need to do is hang up a few sandwich bags filled with water and a couple of coins near to where the bins are positioned.
In fact, the trick works even better if the water is hanging up compared to in a jar, according to Lynsey.
