It wasn’t just the Wimbledon title that boosted Jannik Sinner’s tennis CV following his win over Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday. The Italian beat his Spanish rival in four sets to win his first crown at SW19.

At 23, it was his fourth Grand Slam win, after retaining his Australian Open in January and winning the US Open last September. The world No.1 also gained a measure of revenge for his agonising French Open final defeat this year. Indeed, Roland Garros is now the only tournament left for Sinner to capture in order to seal a career Slam.

The star’s victory on Sunday was also his 81st men’s singles match win at Grand Slam events in 100 contests. That surpasses the amount enjoyed by Roger Federer (80), Novak Djokovic (79), or Andy Murray (77) in the same match period.

Indeed, only Rafael Nadal has more since 2000, with 86. Sinner has also joined the fabled ‘big four’ in another way, having surpassed 12,000 rankings points this season.

He’s only the fifth player ever to do so, after Nadal, Federer, Djokovic and Murray. He has also already surpassed the Scot’s total of three Grand Slam wins, although he still has 20 more to win to match all-time record holder Djokovic.

Sinner has remained top of the rankings throughout 2025 despite missing three months of the campaign. He was suspended following his two positive drugs tests last year, which forced him to sit out Masters events in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, and Madrid.

After Wimbledon, he said the scrutiny he’d been under made him feel like ‘celebrating more’. Nick Kyrgios has led a chorus of critics over his doping saga.

"There are always going to be some people who believe in you and who do not, but this is in everything,” he said. “So yeah, in a way, it's very special, because it was very, very stressful the time on the last four or five months."
