Jannik Sinner has revealed what he briefly spoke about with Prince George and Princess Charlotte following his Wimbledon victory. The Italian impressed as he came from behind to secure a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win over Carlos Alcaraz and clinch his first title at SW19.

After going behind, Sinner found a new gear to relentlessly turn the tide in the clash, with his fierce serving and smart ground strokes putting the game to bed without even offering Alcaraz a glimmer of hope of staging a comeback.

Following his victory, Princess Kate, patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, presented Sinner with his trophy on Centre Court and congratulated him on his success. The pair then met again when the four-time Grand Slam winner spoke with Princess Charlotte and Prince George.

The family, including Prince William, had watched Sinner’s incredible afternoon unravel from the Royal Box, and they were given the chance to meet the winner of the blockbuster clash afterwards. The 23-year-old signed tennis balls for the children – and one for Prince Louis as well, who did not attend – before enjoying a short but sweet conversation, where he was congratulated by the children.

Speaking about the exchange, Sinner said: "In the beginning I didn’t know what to say, because in those moments, you don’t want to - it's difficult to understand, you know, how you can talk.

"I always try to talk very naturally, you know. I asked the kids if they play tennis and asked what kind of racquets they play with—these kinds of things. But it was amazing."

Sinner went on to add that the royals playing such a starring role at Wimbledon makes the competition even more special, saying: “I think, and I believe, for us tennis players, it’s so nice to have them watching us, because it makes it even more special.

“You see how much they care about tennis and the sport itself, and it’s very, very prestigious. So, I’ve been lucky to meet her (Princess Kate) and the whole family, and it was a very nice moment."

Princess Kate presented Spanish star Alcaraz with his runner-up shield and offered him some brief words of comfort after his disappointing defeat. The Princess of Wales also greeted ball boys and girls who had worked at the competition.
