Stepping up to the microphone for his interview with Annabel Croft, the newly-crowned champion said: “Hello everyone. First of all, I would like to start with Carlos, again, amazing tournament but mostly thank you for the player you are.

“It’s so difficult to play against you but we have, as you said, an amazing relationship off the court, and on the court we just try to build up and for doing that we need the best teams in the world and also you have the best team.

“So keep going, keep pushing, you are going to hold many, many times this trophy, you have already two, so!”

Two-time Wimbledon champion Alcaraz, who had previously not lost a match here since Sinner beat him in the fourth round in 2022, was left cracking up as he watched on.

Sinner was full of jokes, as he also took a playful swipe at his brother, who actually turned up to watch his match. The world No. 1 jibed: “It’s so special because seeing my parents here, my brother, my whole team, it’s amazing. Actually, a special thanks to my brother because there is no Formula 1 race this weekend, that’s why he’s here!”

The Italian also couldn’t forget his crushing loss in the Roland Garros final five weeks ago, when Alcaraz saved three championship points and beat him in five hours and 29 minutes.

After getting the job done this time, he was asked what it took to win, and replied: “I would say mostly emotionally because I had a very tough loss in Paris, so!

“But at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter if win or you lose, especially in important tournaments you have to understand what you did wrong, try to work on that.

“That’s exactly what we did, we tried to accept the loss and tried to keep working and this is for sure one of the reasons I hold the trophy here. I’m just so grateful that I’m healthy, I have great people around which is the best part.”

Sinner will now become a lifelong member of the All England Club - something he dreamed about as a child. “We were talking before the match that we never thought we would be in this position when I was young,” he explained.

“This was only a dream, the dream of the dream because it was so far away from where I'm from. I'm just living my dream.

“I would like to thank my team and everyone who came here for this special day. It means so much. They keep pushing me to become a better tennis player, but also a better person.”
