One of the most-watched films on Netflix at present is a 'mind-bending' sci-fi thriller that viewers have mixed feelings about.

The film, titled Brick, was only recently added to the streaming platform and has quickly become one of the most popular among subscribers.

At the time of writing, this German-produced movie ranks third in the top ten films among UK users, trailing behind the anime sensation K Pop Demon Hunters and the documentary Trainwreck The Real Project X.

According to the synopsis provided by Netflix, the plot unfolds when a mysterious brick wall suddenly encloses a couple's apartment building.

Tim and Olivia must join forces with their sceptical neighbours to escape alive.

Despite its immediate success on the major streaming platform, the film has received mixed reviews from critics. It currently holds a score of just 31% on Rotten Tomatoes, reports the Mirror.

One critic addressed the comparisons made between Brick and the cult classic Cube when the first trailer was released. The latter film features a group of strangers waking up in a giant cube filled with deadly traps.

The critic stated: "It seems clear that Brick has more in common with a bottom-tier Black Mirror episode than it does a true sci-fi puzzle-box movie like Cube . It does a lot of little things competently, but doesn't do any one thing exceedingly well, leaving it feeling like a genre exercise in search of a story worth telling."

One disgruntled viewer didn't mince their words, stating outright: "Watching this was actually painful.. Holy its so bad.. and the actors are terrible... Do not watch.. you will regret it."

Yet, for every critic, there's an enthusiast. One viewer praised the film, saying: "A pretty amazing and exciting contained thriller with a sci-fi twist. The ensemble and the camera work sticks out, with the plot taken twists you don ́t see coming. Fun and cool with that little German hint of weirdness!".

Eager praises didn't stop as another chimed in: "This movie was so amazing. Great cast, great acting. I had no clue what was going to happen next. It is Escape Room on steroids. Great movie, great story, great cast, great direction."

Adding to the chorus, someone remarked about the German sci-fi flick: "Netflix's German sci-fi chiller imprisons a couple in a high-rise overtaken by an ominous black barrier.
