Wimbledon blamed a ball boy after the line-calling system malfunctioned during a men’s quarter-final on Tuesday.

Taylor Fritz and Karen Khachanov were forced to replay a point when the new technology failed.

Tournament bosses later blamed the appearance of a ball boy on the court for the technology not recognising when the point had started.

A statement read: “The player’s service motion began while the BBG was still crossing the net and therefore the system didn’t recognise the start of the point. As such the Chair Umpire instructed the point be replayed.”

Fritz went on to win on four sets to book his place in the semi-finals.
