Prince William's thoughts on key Trooping the Colour role revealed | Royal | News

Prince William is set to ride horseback at this year's Trooping the Colour, it has been revealed. The royal, who will celebrate his 43rd birthday later this month, is set to join Princess Anne and Prince Edward by riding during the annual event.

The event, which takes place every June, has been held to mark the sovereign's official birthday since the accession of King George IV in 1820, except during the world wars and a national strike in 1955. The event was held in a scaled-back form at Windsor Castle in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The traditional parade has seen King Charles riding horseback in the past both as Prince of Wales and monarch. Last year, he took part in the parade on a carriage, and he has been tipped to do the same this year.

According to The Times, the King will join Queen Camilla in a carriage for the procession from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade and back.

The source previously revealed what William really thinks of his role at the annual event, adding, "He really enjoys it."

The King, 76, has been present in the saddle during many of the celebrations held throughout the reign of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The late Queen, who died aged 96 in 2022, last rode during her birthday celebrations in 1986.

As well as William, Anne and Edward, the Duchess of Edinburgh are set to make an appearance next week.

William could also be joined by Princess Kate, 43, and their three children - Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and seven-year-old Prince Louis.

Duchess Sophie and Edward were joined by their 21-year-old daughter Lady Louise Windsor last year.
