England are reportedly adopting an unusual approach to their preparations for the 2026 World Cup in the US, Mexico and Canada. The heat at the stadiums are already at the heart of conversations, with temperatures regularly soaring beyond 30 degrees in the summer in the likes of Dallas and Monterrey.

As a result, Thomas Tuchel and his coaching staff have quickly turned their attention to preparing for the heat and ensuring that their squad is conditioned appropriately to remain fit and competitive in every match.

According to the Daily Mail, Tuchel is hoping to get his players ‘used to the baking in the sun’ and have centred their preparation around that. The Three Lions jetted off for a week-long training session in Girona in a bid to emulate the lack of humidity for next summer.

There was 60 per cent humidity in Girona, whereas it reached 93 per cent in Dallas earlier this week – though England will look to work their way up to that level of breath-taking severity over the next 12 months.

The Three Lions are also using a new piece of technology, valued at £60, to try and gain more information about how players are coping with different environments. Players are consuming electronic pills which can record an individuals’ vitals, heart rate and body temperature – among other key data for the FA sport scientists to use.

The results will allow individual plans to be drawn up on each player to ensure that they are benefitting from the programme and also having personalised plans created on how to recover from matches and when they should be hydrating.

Tuchel will be hoping to learn plenty from his squad during the upcoming World Cup qualification fixtures, when his side takes on Andorra this weekend before facing Senegal on Tuesday night. The former Chelsea boss will also be having one eye on the ongoing sagas in the summer transfer window.

Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford are among those to have been stalwarts for the Three Lions previously but are now struggling for minutes, and a move away from their respective Manchester clubs over the coming months could see them bounce back to form – and reignite their hopes of featuring at next summer’s World Cup.
