Gardeners urged to avoid mowing lawns at specific times of day in June![]() Summer is just around the corner which means gardeners up and down the country will be getting their gardens primed for social events. As well as deadheading, pruning and cleaning patios and fences, gardeners might find themselves tempted to give their lawns a quick mow. Grass tends to grow faster in June due to higher temperatures, which means it's likely that lawns will need to be mowed more frequently. However, there is a risk that mowing lawns at a specific time of day could wreak havoc on your grass, according to an expert. Chris Cooper at Hayter, British manufacturer of battery mowers, said gardeners will need to "change the time of day" they mow their lawns in June for an important reason. He explained: “Never mow in the early morning, at midday or after dusk. "In the morning, grass may still be wet from dew, mowing at midday is too hot, and mowing after dusk leaves your lawn vulnerable to fungal attacks." So, what is the best time of day to mow lawns in June? According to Chris, mowing late morning or mid-late afternoon is the sweet spot. He added: "This is the best time to mow in optimal weather conditions without disturbing local wildlife too much.” As well as being mindful of the time of day you mow your lawn, Chris said gardeners should also think about the height they mow their lawns. With grass growing faster in June, gardeners need to adjust their mower cutting height so it removes more each time. To do this, simply lower your mower's cutting height, being careful never to cut more than one-third of the lawn height. Chris also suggested that gardeners mow their lawns once a week in June unless the lawn is showing signs of "extreme dryness." He added: "If grass growth is quicker than expected, mowing twice per week is also advised if the grass is being properly hydrated." Source link Posted: 2025-06-02 21:27:41 |
