Labour acts as though illegal migration is inevitable – these countries prove it's not | Politics | News![]() Another superstar day for Britain's premier league border control as over 1,100 migrants crossed the English Channel on Saturday, the highest number in 2025. No wonder Reform UK continues its poll surge. Labour's Defence Secretary John Healey may have told Sky News that Britain had "lost control of its borders over the last five years" but who cares? No one believes a word the Conservatives or Labour say on this anymore. The Tories sat back and watched record legal and illegal migration, while so far this year there have been nearly 15,000 small boat arrivals. That's up over 40% since this time last year. Amazing. You would think policing a water border would be a bit easier than land. Alas, no. One wonders why the UK even bothers with passport control at Heathrow Airport. Politicians want you to believe this isn't a choice. Why then can countries in Asia – like Japan, Singapore and Taiwan (all islands like Britain) or South Korea – police their borders? Singapore, where I live, has strict border controls and a system of work permits. Have a butcher's at a map and look how close Malaysia and Indonesia are to Singapore. Miraculously there are no small boat crossings. Funny that. You don't think it's because Singapore's government actually wants to police its border while Britain's couldn't give a monkey's? Ditto Japan and Taiwan: both a spit and a cough from the much poorer Philippines. Sure, both of the former countries have Filipino guest workers but not small boat crossings or an exploding migrant population. How about the likes of the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland, two landlocked countries and one bordered on three sides? Stand back in amazement, they too do not have uncontrolled borders, and that's with Belarus weaponising migration on the Polish border. No one blames people from poor countries wanting a better life. But we should all blame Western governments for failing at the most basic of functions. Since April 14, every poll has had Reform UK in the lead. Is it any wonder? Nigel Farage's party is the only one with any credibility when it comes to maintaining Britain's border integrity. Both the UK and the US now crack down on skilled legal migration having allowed uncontrolled numbers of illegal migrants. All the while both could have met their labour market needs through work permits. Living in Singapore has shown me there can be zero tolerance of crime and that borders – even on a tiny island with nearby much poorer countries – can be policed. Successive UK governments could have controlled Britain's borders. They chose not to. It was a choice. We should not blame the migrants, but we should continually blame those tasked with maintaining UK borders. Little wonder Reform is now surging. Is anyone even listening to Labour and the Tories when it comes to this issue? Who can even believe a word they say? Source link Posted: 2025-06-02 10:28:37 |
