Kyle Gass Company review – Tenacious D trio's catchy acoustic comedy rock | Music | Entertainment

Last year, Tenacious D cancelled the rest of their Australian tour after Jack Black’s band partner, Kyle Gass, made a controversial joke about the Trump assassination attempt.

Both apologised and the D has been on a bit of a hiatus since, but with plans for future collaborations.

Nevertheless, in the meantime, Gass has embarked on a return to live shows, performing a smaller acoustic version of his very own Kyle Gass Band.

The Kyle Gass Company features the comic musician with Tenacious D and Trainwreck electric guitarist John Konesky and KGB’s lead vocalist Mike Bray.

Fans will also remember the latter as the D’s Sasquatch, The Metal, Biffy Pyro and occasional Satan for live performances of Beelzeboss – while with Konesky, they have their own country band, Wynchester.

Looking forward to seeing what they had instore for us, Daily Express headed to the intimate O2 Islington last night to catch The Kyle Gass Company’s 3 Man Job on the penultimate night of their European tour. Sporting a great gnomish beard, Black’s other half of the D entered the venue by floating through the crowd singing KGB favourite Manchild, surrounded by plenty of beers (and farts) in the audience. After opening with catchy tunes Gettin’ the Band Back Together and Our Job to Rock, there were, of course, some Tenacious D covers from Classico to Jesus Ranch, which the bros in the crowd belted out with much enthusiasm.

Gass and his compadres also treated us to a medley of Oasis’ Wonderwall, She’s Electric and Champagne Supernova. While during a rendition of Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In), the Tenacious D rocker was back in the crowd. And given that Daily Express was one of the only ones who knew the track from The Big Lebowski, he let us briefly share the mike with him in a particularly memorable encounter. Speaking of which, when the encore came for Tribute, Gass picked one lucky fan out of the crowd to lead with Black’s vocals on the greatest song in the world. Entertaining and hilarious as ever, we look forward even more to his eventual reunion tour with his best buddy.
