Man Utd humiliated by ASEAN All-Stars in defeat after awkward open top bus parade | Football | Sport

A strong Manchester United team were beaten 1-0 by ASEAN All-Stars to mark a disastrous start to the club's post-season tour of Asia. Ruben Amorim's side have reach a dreadful new low after finishing 15th in the Premier League and losing last week's Europa League final against Tottenham.

United have taken the majority of their best players to Asia, where they are currently in Malaysia. Having travelled to the match in an awkward open top bus parade, the Red Devils went on to lose against ASEAN All-Stars, a team made up of international footballers from South-East Asia. Amorim's starting 11 featured the likes of Andre Onana, Harry Maguire, Patrick Dorgu, Diogo Dalot, Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund. Bruno Fernandes,Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho all appeared from the bench during a match in which a roll-on, roll-off substitute rule was adopted.

United might have been hoping for another rare win after ending the Premier League season by beating Aston Villa 2-0 at Old Trafford. But it was a familiar tale for many of their players as they were defeated in their first match in Asia.

Mainoo had an excellent opportunity to score in the first half. Patrick Dorgu headed into the path of the midfielder, whose volley was cleared off the line. He was unable to reach the rebound.

Myanmar international Maung Maung Lwin, who plays his club football for mid-table Thai outfit Lamphun Warriors, scored the only goal of the game. His strike came with 20 minutes remaining and United were unable to find an equaliser.

The defeat comes after sheepish United stars were forced to take an open top bus tour through Malaysia before the game. In videos shared on social media, some of the players can be seen embarking on the journey in good spirits, smiling and waving to fans. However, not many people seemed to have lined the streets for the event.
