'Half of England' to be soaked as 320-mile wall of rain hits 16 counties | Weather | News

Britain could face a massive 320-mile band of rain, stretching from Devon to Lancashire, covering almost half of England. The areas likely to bear the brunt of the wet weather include the western half of England, particularly Lancashire, Cheshire, Cumberland, Westmorland, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Devon, Dorset, Cornwall, and potentially parts of the West Midlands, including Warwickshire.

Additionally, West Yorkshire could also be affected. According to WX Charts, which utilises data from Met Desk, the change in weather is predicted to begin on May 22, with the large band of rain blanketing the country. This spell of rainy weather is expected to persist for several days, impacting various areas of England until May 25 before ultimately clearing up.

Meanwhile, BBC Weather issued a forecast stating: "Today, a cloudy start in eastern England. Turning sunny once again in the afternoon for most. Scattered showers, possibly heavy and thundery, will develop later on for south-west Scotland. Tonight will see cloud build for eastern areas, before spreading westwards and breaking up, leaving most with variable cloud and clear spells. A few showers developing in the south-west around dawn.", reports Birmingham Live.

"Tomorrow will see scattered showers across northwest areas of the UK, some locally heavy and thundery. Outside of these, it will be a largely dry day with sunny spells.

"Tuesday looks to see another generally dry and sunny day, although Wales and south-western England will see scattered showers developing, these again locally heavy and thundery."

The forecast for the week continues: "Dry and sunny for most on Wednesday, though the odd shower is possible in the far south-west. Generally dry and sunny on Thursday, but turning cloudier in the north-west later on."
