PS Plus Extra May 2025 games line-up dubbed 'embarrassing' by fans | Gaming | Entertainment

The new PS Plus Extra and Premium games line-up was recently announced by Sony. Launching on May 20, the next batch of PlayStation Plus Extra games includes Sand Land, Soul Hackers 2, Battlefield 5 and Humankind.

That's on top of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted – Full Time Edition, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Legends of the Zone Trilogy, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life and Gloomhaven.

The PS Plus Premium line-up, meanwhile, consists of just one game, as Battle Engine Aquila joins the roster.

The games line-up hasn't gone down well with customers, especially compared to the recent offerings on Xbox Game Pass.

Fans took to X to express their disappointment. One fan writes: "This is getting embarrassing honestly, who the hell is playing any of this."

Another post agrees, calling it a "pretty poor month" for PS Plus arrivals.

Other people are disappointed with the lack of PlayStation Plus Premium games, with one fan suggesting that while the Extra games are very good, Premium doesn't seem worth the money.

Perhaps the following sums it up best, saying: "This is a poor month. Especially in the face of Xbox Game Pass."

As a reminder, Xbox Game Pass recently added the likes of Expedition 33, Revenge of the Savage Planet, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Modern Warfare 2.

Then there's Doom: The Dark Ages, which joined Xbox Game Pass on May 15.

In most cases, it's not that the PS Plus Extra games are bad on an individual basis, just that they're either a bit niche or quite old.

Battlefield 5, for example, launched all the way back in 2018, and is often on sale for next to nothing.

Sand Land is arguably the pick of the bunch, but is somewhat of an acquired taste. It's based on the manga by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, who sadly died in 2024.

Five Nights at Freddy's is a series that you either love it or don't, while Soul Hackers 2 is a reasonably well received RPG with a stylish aesthetic.

I'm a big fan of the Gloomhaven board game and video game spinoff, but it's not exactly brimming with mainstream appeal.

Meanwhile, the Premium offerings are becoming increasingly difficult to justify, especially with many of the higher-profile retro releases already available as part of the service.

Fingers crossed Sony turns things around in June, because PS Plus Extra and Premium needs a boost after recent price increases in various regions.
