Jack Draper furiously screams in anger as umpire steps in during Carlos Alcaraz clash | Tennis | Sport

Jack Draper repeatedly screamed 'f***' as the Brit's anger with his performance against Carlos Alcaraz reached boiling point at the Italian Open. The 23-year-old was frustrated after allowing a 4-2 first-set lead to slip before starting the second set poorly.

Draper led Alcaraz in their quarter-final clash. He waltzed into a 4-2 advantage, giving himself a strong chance of winning the first set. The World No. 5 even had a break point to go 5-2 ahead. However, Alcaraz saved them and went on to dominate the next four games. The Spaniard, who went on to win the match, took the first set 6-4 in a crushing blow to Draper.

Alcaraz subsequently broke Draper's serve in the first game of the second set. As the British No. 1 attempted to break back, he gained a 30-15 lead in the second service game.

After carefully moving Alcaraz across the court, Draper frustratingly struck the net when the majority of the other side of the court was free for him to round off the rally and go 40-15 ahead.

Draper screamed: F***! F***! F***!"

The umpire seemed to ask Draper to calm down. There was a smattering of applause and several members of the crowd got behind Draper. "Come on, Jack!" was heard being shouted by a number of fans.

Letting out his frustration appeared to work for Draper for the next few games. After a flurry of exchanged points, he managed to break Alcaraz's serve and his performance in the second set improved. It was the first game he had won since going 4-2 ahead in the opening set.

However, Alcaraz broke Draper to go 5-4 ahead and served out the match to seal a 6-4 6-4 victory. He will play in the semi-final later in the week.

Draper was attempting to beat four-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz for the third time in his career. After his victory in Rome, Alcaraz now leads their head-to-head record by four wins to two.

However, it was a victory over Alcaraz that propelled Draper to Indian Wells victory earlier this year. He defeated the reigning Wimbledon champion in the semi-final, setting up a showdown with Holger Rune. Draper won the final 6-2 6-2 to claim his first Masters 1000 title. His clay-court campaign has already been positive.
