Netflix's new show The Gardener taught me 1 key tip to boost plant growth

Netflix's latest thriller, 'The Gardener,' has fans raving over its "twisted plot" ahead of the much-anticipated season 5 release of Penn Badgley's 'You' this week. What sets these two serial killers apart is the way the murders are hidden; The Gardener buries bodies underneath the soil of his plants.

Despite his murderous antics, The Gardener revealed a key tip to boost your garden's growth that actually works—and it doesn't involve killing anyone. In episode one, the killer, Elmer Jurado, prematurely crosses paths with his next victim and faints on the street. The kind woman suggests that his sugar levels were low, to which he responds, " Sugar is also a really good plant fertiliser."

According to Home & Gardens, there are lots of benefits to putting sugar on your lawn. Lindsey Hyland, the Founder of Urban Organic Yield shared: "Sugar will help break down thatch, the layer of dead grass, and other organic material that can accumulate on your lawn over time.

"This thatch can make it difficult for new grass to grow, but using sugar on your lawn can help break it down and improve the health of your lawn.

However, the expert warns to only use the substance in moderation. They added: "Only use a sugar solution about once a month; some sources suggest replacing harsh fertilisers with rice water for more consistent application."

Sugar water is another natural method that aids plant growth. Sugar water is believed to enhance plant growth by improving their ability to absorb water and nutrients, leading to more beautiful foliage and vibrant flowers.

An expert from Homes & Garden shared: "Sugar, in diluted form, can help dying plants in the short term by providing a small boost to the plant's naturally occurring sugars.

"Adding sugar can also help to encourage microbial activity in the soil to support a dying plant quickly."

"Sugar water may also provide a benefit for blooms from your cut flower garden. If you have learned how to take plant cuttings, then adding sugar water to your stems can help to keep flowers fresh in a vase for longer."
