The Speakers Cat immortalised as a toy sold for £25 in the gift shop | UK | News

The furry friend was specially commissioned to honour the cat who is known for bringing joy to visitors and staff alike, especially owner Sir Lindsay Hoyle. The toy features Attlee’s tabby coat and green eyes, and has his own House of Commons green collar with a portcullis tag. His listing reads: “This adorable plush toy has been modelled on Attlee, the beloved pet of the Speaker of the House of Commons.

“When he’s not stalking the corridors of power, Attlee enjoys chasing rolled-up bits of paper, prowling in and out of meetings with MPs, bringing joy to the office staff, and welcoming visitors to Parliament.” The brown tabby Maine Coon, who was named after former Labour Prime Minister Clement Attlee, has his own Instagram page with 21,400 followers.

Sir Lindsay has described Attlee as: “The boldest, craziest life force you can imagine. He races around my office, much to the amusement of my team, and brings a smile to the face of doorkeepers, police officers, cleaners – and everyone who comes into contact with him.”

Cuddly lookalike Attlee is suitable for anyone over the age of one and is exclusively available in the Commons gift shop and website.
