Jesus death and resurrection films to watch this Easter and where to stream | Films | Entertainment

This weekend, Christians around the world will be celebrating Easter, remembering the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Good Friday commemorates his crucifixion. This is when his followers believe that he, God incarnate, was punished for the sins of the world in a substitutionary swap.

Then, three days later, on Easter Sunday, it’s claimed Jesus physically rose from the dead to prove the atonement and victory over death, for all who put their trust in him by faith.

Over the years, there have been many adaptations of the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) in the Bible. Here are five to catch this weekend, including a brilliant new one that’s out now in cinemas.

The King of Kings (2025)

This fantastic new animation, out now in cinemas (you can book here), features an all-star cast including Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, Mark Hamill, Pierce Brosnan, Forest Whitaker, Ben Kingsley, and Oscar Isaac as Christ. The film sees Charles Dickens recount the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus to his enthused son in a heartwarming retelling. Read our review here.
