Remove stubborn oven grease with 'almost no effort' using 3 household items

It's time for a much-needed spring clean, tackling spots often forgotten about or difficult to polish. The oven is one of the most troublesome places to clean due to the built-up grease, food spills and liquids, leading to hours of strenuous scrubbing with toxic chemicals.

Fortunately, a cleaning guru has taken to social media to reveal three "non-toxic" household items that will clean your oven with "almost no effort." On Instagram, Home decor page @thatorganizedhome captioned their video: "Tired of scrubbing your oven for hours? Try this all-natural cleaning hack by @sandtproducts - no harsh chemicals, just simple ingredients that actually work!

"Your oven will look brand new with almost no effort. Who’s ready for a deep clean the easy way?" Within the video, the creator is seen mixing dark blue dish soap, baking soda, and vinegar in a measuring cup until the mixture turned into a light blue bubblegum colour.

The cooking racks were removed so the oven was accessible to clean. The mixture was then placed in the dirty oven and left to sit for 10 minutes.

The oven was then wiped with a microfibre cloth in every corner, including the oven's glass door, until the mixture was completely removed. Taking to the comments, someone asked: “Ok, but does this work on really stubborn stains? My oven is like a crime scene."

The creator replied: "Yes, but for really stubborn stains, you may need to let the paste sit longer." Another person enquired: "Does it leave a residue? What happens when you turn the oven on…does it smell like burning soap?"

The creator commented: "No, if wiped down properly, it shouldn’t leave any residue. After scrubbing, I recommend wiping the oven thoroughly with a damp cloth and then going over it again with a clean, dry cloth."

Here’s what you’ll need for the cleaning hack:

  • Half cup dish soap
  • One cup baking soda
  • Half cup white vinegar
  • A microfibre cloth

A food expert at the Kitchn recommends a similar hack but with water instead of dish soap. In a small bowl, mix a 1/2 cup of baking soda with tablespoons of water until a spreadable paste is made.

They said: "For me, this took about three tablespoons of water to get the desired spreadable consistency." Spread the paste all over your oven.

The expert warned: "Steer clear of the heating elements. Allow the baking soda mixture to rest for at least 12 hours or overnight.

"After 12 hours or overnight, take a damp dish cloth and wipe out as much of the dried baking soda paste as you can. Use a plastic or silicone spatula to help scrape off the paste as needed"

To conclude, they shared: "Put a little vinegar in a spray bottle and spritz everywhere you still see baking soda residue in your oven. Take your damp cloth and wipe out the remaining foamy vinegar-baking-soda mixture. Repeat until all the baking soda residue is gone."
