The gorgeous Italian beach you can only visit if you book a spot | World | News

A stunning Italian beach with pristine white sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters can only be accessible to visitors by booking through an app this summer. Tuerredda Beach, located on Sardinia's southern coast near Teulada, is a favourite destination for both locals and tourists.

However, following the growing number of tourists visiting the beautiful beach over the years, the authorities have been capping the number of visitors in a bid to protect it. Since 2020, access to Tuerredda Beach has been limited to 1,100 visitors per day. And the latest digital measure aims to ease the strain on local resources and infrastructure.

More details about the specific app and booking procedures are expected to be announced closer to the implementation date.

Currently, reservations are only possible for the beach establishments. According to the reports, access to the free beach section cannot be reserved in advance.

The mayor of Teulada, Angelo Milia, joined a crisis summit of 25 tourist towns in Amalfi last week. He told local media: "We hope to start with the new system as early as July".

The mayors of Capri, Positano, Cinque Terre, Courmayeur and Taormina met to discuss the growing problem of overtourism. The latter has seen a boom in tourist numbers after it appeared in the second season of TV show White Lotus.

The mayors wanted greater flexibility to restrict tourist access during busy periods, to impose taxes and to have more say in coordinating trains, ferries and other public transport, reports The Telegraph.

There was general discontent at the Italian government's slow pace to manage overcrowding.

Italy has been grappling with overtourism, leading several cities to implement measures aimed at preserving their cultural heritage and improving the quality of life for residents.

Last year, Venice implemented a €5 entry fee for day-trippers during peak periods. In 2025, this fee doubled to €10 for visitors booking less than four days in advance, applying on 54 high-traffic days, up from 29 days in 2024. Exemptions include overnight guests, local residents, students, and relatives of residents.
