Urgent Aldi recall as popular product hit with 'do not eat' warning

A potato product sold at Aldi has been recalled from customers over concerns that it could trigger allergies. The Inspired Cuisine Baby Potatoes with Herbs and Butter contains milk which is not declared on the label. A notice issued by the Food Standards Agency said: “This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it.” Around 2-3% of children suffer from an allergy to cow’s milk, with most growing out of it by the age of five.

However, it can persist in a small number of adults and cause a severe, life-threatening reaction known as anaphylaxis.

One in 10 older children and adults are also thought to suffer from lactose intolerance, meaning they struggle to digest the lactose in milk.

This can cause symptoms including bloating, diarrhoea and stomach cramps.

The recall applies to 385g packs of the potatoes with a use-by date of April 12 2025.

A poster issued by Aldi added: “Customers are asked to return this product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given.

“We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation.”

Anaphylaxis UK also notified its members about the recall. It said: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk, do not eat it and return to your nearest ALDI store for a full refund.”
