Buckingham Palace gives fresh update on King Charles and Camilla's Italy tour | Royal | News

King Charles and Queen Camilla will be treated to a lavish state banquet held in Rome on their 20th wedding anniversary during the couple's four-day state visit to Italy which begins on Monday.

Charles and Camilla will be joined by prominent figures from Italian society at the black-tie dinner hosted by Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella. It will be held at the Quirinale, which is a former Italian palace and one of the official residencies of the President of the Republic.

Other highlights of the trip will see the UK and Italy's defence co-operation marked by a joint flypast over Rome by the Italian Air Force's aerobatic team, Frecce Tricolori, and by the RAF's Red Arrows.

With a number of Vatican events removed from the itinerary in Rome, the remaining engagements in the Italian capital have been spread over two days with extra elements added to some engagements.

The couple were originally meant to have an audience with Pope Francis during the visit, however, this has been called off as the he continues to recover from pneumonia.

A statement from Buckingham Palace confirmed the move as medical advice said the Pope would "benefit from an extended period of rest and recuperation".

The statement added: "Their Majesties send The Pope their best wishes for his convalescence and look forward to visiting him in The Holy See, once he has recovered."

The King spent Friday making final preparations for the state visit to the Republic of Italy but the separate state visit to the Holy See, the government of the Roman Catholic Church located in the Vatican - the world's smallest independent state - has been postponed.

The black tie event on the couple's anniversary will also mark two decades since Charles and Camilla wed in a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall on April 9, 2005.

The then Prince of Wales married Camilla Parker Bowles in a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall in 2005.

Their low-key wedding was then followed by a Service of Prayer and Dedication at Windsor Castle, which the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip and wider members of the Royal Family attended.

Camilla wore two outfits on her wedding day, designed by Antonia Robinson and Anna Valentine.

The first dress for the civil ceremony was a knee-length cream dress with a feathered hat by Philip Treacy. The bride then changed into a floor-length embroidered pale blue and gold coat over a matching dress and accessorised with gold feathers.
