The unusual two-word nickname Princess Diana gave King Charles | Royal | News

The late Princess Diana may be one of the most famous women in the world, however this wasn’t always the case. Before her relationship with King Charles, who was The Prince of Wales at the time, was announced, Diana was living a pretty ordinary life at her West London flat, which she shared with a few of her closest friends. The late princess, who worked as a nanny at the time, was also not used to being in the spotlight.

Although Diana was clearly besotted with Charles, the late princess was keen to keep the identity of the man she was seeing under wraps before they got engaged. This led to her coming up with a clever two-word nickname.

As reported by OK magazine, Diana would say she was seeing a man named 'Charles Renfrew' when asked if she was in a relationship.

The last name comes from the Baron of Renfrew title, which is one of many styles granted to The Prince of Wales by the monarch - which is what King Charles was at the time.

It is believed she used this nickname when talking about Charles before their engagement, which led to their 1981 wedding.

After this, Diana was put very clearly into the public eye and was quick to take part in royal engagements both alongside her husband and solo.

The princess, despite seeming shy when her courtship with Charles was first announced, took to a life in the limelight pretty quickly, and soon became used to it.

Despite later divorcing Charles, Diana remained as much in the spotlight as before, something which appeared to infuriate her when it came to the private lives of her children Prince William and Prince Harry.

The late princess sadly died at the age of 36 in 1997.
